2nd Marine Division’s Williams nominated for second star
U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Brig. Gen. James L. Williams has been nominated for a second star by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, the Pentagon announced Tuesday.
Williams serves as the assistant division commander of the 2nd Marine Division, which has operational control of Anbar province and western Iraq.
In recent days, Williams has presided over meetings in Ramadi between U.S. forces and Iraqis suspected of supporting the insurgency. The talks have been viewed as addressing Iraqi concerns over the pullout of U.S. forces from the region, particularly in the volatile province west of Baghdad.
