The U.S. and Egyptian navies are practicing how to detect and neutralize underwater explosives using dive teams and drones in an exercise in the Red Sea.
Sailors from 5th Fleet’s underwater ordnance and disposal units are training with the Egyptian navy to improve teamwork and strengthen military diving skills.
The exercise, Eagle Response 18, which began Tuesday at the Red Sea Naval Base, includes underwater detonation drills, underwater drone operations and anti-terrorism and force-protection dives.
“Diving is one of the most hazardous evolutions a human can do, and it’s important we share our experiences and learn from each other to improve safety across the board,” said Chief Petty Officer Eli Hernandez, the decompression training instructor.
