KABUL, Afghanistan — On Thursday, American and NATO personnel sat down for Thanksgiving dinner at International Security Assistance Force Command’s headquarters in downtown Kabul.
For many stationed at ISAF, Thursday’s dinner was one of many spent away from home and loved ones.
For Sgt. 1st Class Reginald Keitt, Thursday was his fifth Thanksgiving spent away from home, his third in Afghanistan.
Keitt said the comaraderie among his fellow soldiers “and all the smiles on people’s faces” help him celebrate another Thanksgiving in a war zone.
It is Air Force civilian Peggy Facer’s first Thanksgiving in Afghanistan. But even while doling out spoonfuls of mac and cheese, thousands of miles from her home in Utah, Facer said the crowd of soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines “feels like family.”
