KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — An American civilian was hit and killed by a train early Friday morning near Landstuhl, German police reported.
The accident occurred at 6:35 a.m. at a point where crossing the tracks is not permitted, according to a spokeswoman for the Kaiserslautern police.
A police statement said the 43-year-old man may have misjudged the distance of the train in the dark, or not seen it.
American military security forces joined German police at the scene, the police said.
A U.S. Air Forces in Europe spokesman said Friday that the man was a contract civilian who provided technical support at USAFE headquarters.
