A children’s car seat has been removed from Army and Air Force Exchange Service shelves after a recall by Evenflo Company Inc., AAFES announced Monday.

Evenflo initiated a voluntary recall of about 14,000 Maestro child safety seats after a high-impact crash test found a crack could form at the front of the seat, causing the child to be improperly restrained, according to a release by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

No injuries have occurred as a result of the defect, Evenflo officials said.

The model sold at AAFES stores is the Evenflo Maestro model number 31011059.

According to an AAFES statement, Evenflo will provide those who have purchased the seat with a free reinforcement plate with repair instructions to fix the problem. Owners of the car seats should immediately stop using the restraint system and register for the free reinforcement kit by calling (800) 233-5921 or visiting the company’s website at: www.safety.evenflo.com.
