A memorial service will be held Friday for a longtime Defense Department educator.
George P. Carpenter, who was principal of Schweinfurt Middle School, Germany, died Sept. 16 following a long illness, according to a Department of Defense Education Activity news release. He was 67.
Carpenter started with DODEA as a guidance counselor trainee in August 1971 at Mannheim High School. During his 38-year career, he held several positions, including guidance counselor, assistant principal and principal. His duty locations included: Mannheim, Kaiserlautern, Bitburg, Landstuhl and Schweinfurt, all in Germany; Torrejon, Spain; Lakenheath, Feltwell and Eastcote, England; and Okinawa.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, three children, one granddaughter and two sisters.
The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at the military base chapel in Landstuhl, Germany.
