TOKYO — The annual Tokyo Game Show kicks off Thursday at Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba Prefecture.

More than 60 Japanese and overseas computer game companies, including Microsoft, Sony, Sega, Capcom and Square Enix will present about 760 games during the show, according to a news release. There will be a special section for children. Last year, the show attracted about 195,000 visitors during the four days, according to the release.

Thursday and Friday are media-only days, but the show is open to the public Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are 1,000 yen in advance and 1,200 yen at the door. Elementary school students and younger are admitted for free. The convention center is about a five-minute walk from Kaihin Makuhari station on Japan Railway’s Keiyo line.

Zama to hold music fest featuring Flo RidaCAMP ZAMA, Japan — The base will open its gates for its second annual Music Friendship Festival, from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The festival will feature hip-hop, rap, pop, rock, jazz, R&B, country, reggae, Top 40 and more. Hip-hop/rap artist Flo Rida will perform both days. The gates will open at 2:30 p.m. each day, and the festival wraps up each evening with a fireworks display. Guests can enter through the main gate or Gate 4 and must have some form of identification, base officials said.

Sagami Depot to hold 20th annual relay raceCAMP ZAMA, JAPAN — The Kanagawa Running Club and the Morale, Welfare and Recreation office at Sagami Depot will host the 20th annual Ekiden Friendship Road Relay on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 10,000 runners are expected, according to base officials. Triathlon set to start Saturday morningYOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — The base will host the Salty Dog Triathlon on Saturday.

The event starts at 7 a.m. and will feature a 400-meter swim, 10.5-mile bike ride and 5K run. Entry fee is $15 per person and a pre-race safety briefing is mandatory for all competitors. For more information, contact the MWR Fitness and Wellness office at DSN 241-4486.

Yokosuka hosts bodybuilding contestYOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — The base will hold the 2009 Yokosuka Bodybuilding Championships Oct. 4 at the Fleet Theater. Prejudging will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a show time of 3 to 5 p.m. The event will feature retired Navy chief petty officer and current bodybuilding pro Leo Ingram as a guest poser. Naval hospital releases flu vaccine scheduleYOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka will offer seasonal flu vaccinations starting in mid-October. Vaccinations will be available from 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at Ikego Elementary School, and noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 20-23 at Nile C. Kinnick High School. The seasonal vaccine does not protect against the H1N1 virus that causes swine flu. For more information, contact the Yokosuka Preventive Medicine Department at DSN 243-2608.
