MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan - The base will honor its military retirees with two days of events later this month, according to the Retiree Activities Office.
The 9th Annual Military Retiree Appreciation Days will kick off at 7:50 a.m. Sept. 19 with an hour-long complimentary breakfast for retirees and one adult guest each at the Collocated Club. Children aren’t allowed to attend.
From 9:40 a.m. to noon that day, retirees are welcome to various activities in the Army and Air Force Exchange foyer, including blood pressure, dental and optometry screenings. Prize drawings will be held every 15 minutes from 10:15 to noon.
On Sept. 20, commissary will hold a retiree-only sale from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Call 226-4428 for more information and to reserve seats.
Japanese contractor falls to death from EssexSASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan - A Japanese contractor fell and died while working Saturday on the USS Essex in port, base officials said Sunday.
The death appeared to be a workplace accident but is being investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, base spokesman Charles Howard said.
The Essex recently returned from multi-national exercises in Australia and is undergoing routine maintenance.
