In a change-of-command ceremony on the Capodichino Navy base May 20, Capt. James Tranoris took charge of Task Force 63 and Sea Logistics Command Europe, relieving Capt. Nicholas Holman.

Both commands are part of the Navy’s 6th Fleet, which covers an area that includes about 20 million square nautical miles of ocean territory.

Task Force 63 is responsible for ships and aircraft that provide logistic support in the European theater, while Sea Logistics Command Europe is the main transportation provider for the 6th Fleet.

Tranoris previously served as chief of staff at U.S. Naval Forces Korea.

Holman, who served in Naples since 2006, heads to the University of Washington in Seattle, where he will teach naval science and take over as commander for the Navy ROTC unit.
