Memorial Day is much more than a long weekend symbolizing summer’s approach. The last Monday in May is an important reminder of those who died serving a cause greater than themselves.

There are many observances scheduled throughout Europe this weekend, several including U.S. military members based in Europe.

11 a.m. Lafayette Escadrille Monument (Marnes la Coquette). The 52nd Fighter Wing from Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, will do a four-plane flyover, and Ramstein’s 435th Air Base Wing honor guard presents.Sunday
