Thanking the community for its support and hard work during her tenure as commander, Col. Kimberly Toney bid farewell to the 501st Combat Support Wing during a change-of-command ceremony Thursday.

"We truly spent the last two years making this wing better," Toney said during her address before relinquishing command to Col. Timothy Cashdollar.

The wing provides the operational and domestic support for 11 bases and units in the United Kingdom and Norway with missions ranging from intelligence to warfighting. While in command, Toney stressed the importance of customer service for the roughly 6,000 servicemembers and civilians she led.

The 501st is one of the most diverse wings in the Air Force, said Maj. Gen. Mark Zamzow, special assistant to the 3rd Air Force commander.

"Kim certainly knows the value of putting people first," Zamzow said.

Toney’s duties while in England ranged from coordinating flood relief for RAF Fairford and the surrounding community last summer to overseeing a $150 million construction project at RAF Menwith Hill.

She managed the transition of dependent children from the now-defunct London Central High School to British schools in 2007, and oversaw construction of the Intelligence Fusion Center and the establishment of the U.S. Africa Command intelligence division at RAF Molesworth.

Last month, Toney was cleared of violating the military’s policy of religious neutrality after sending a mass e-mail to airmen directing them toward an "inspirational" video on a Catholic Web site.

Toney is taking over as deputy director for human resources for U.S. Southern Command in Miami.

Cashdollar came to England from Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, where he served as director of manpower and personnel for U.S. Strategic Command. Earlier this year, he was senior executive fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School at Harvard University.
