Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni this month will hold its own version of the CBS reality show "The Amazing Race."
Base personnel will compete in timed challenges — physical fitness, stamina, marksmanship, sports ability and mental strength will be important — at the air station on May 22, according to Marine Corps Community Services.
Teams of four adults will have 3½ hours to complete the series of challenges, and the best time will win. The top three teams get prizes, MCCS said.

Yokosuka to host Asian Pacific heritage festivalYokosuka Naval Base will hold an Asian Pacific heritage festival outside the commissary on from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 24.
The event will include demonstrations and performances by Polynesian and Maori dancers, Japanese swordsmen, taiko drummers and island musicians. Also on tap is the Santa Cruzan (May Flower) parade from the Philippines.
Black Ship Festival to feature Navy shipsThe Shimoda Black Ship Festival will be Friday through Sunday in Shimoda, Japan.
The festival commemorates U.S. Navy Commodore Matthew Perry’s arrival in Shimoda in 1854.
The three-day event will feature participation from the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS McCampbell and a speech from Yokosuka Naval Base’s commanding officer, Capt. Daniel Weed, as well as fireworks and a parade.
Yokosuka to hold health and safety fairYokosuka Naval Base will hold a health and safety fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 21 outside the commissary.
The fair is held in preparation of the 101 days of summer with interactive events such as car crash simulators, bike registration, fingerprinting, earthquake simulator, tire and brake inspection information and tips on how to climb Mount Fuji safely.
U.S., JMSDF sailors to compete at YokosukaJapan Maritime Self-Defense Force and American sailors are scheduled to hold an Olympic competition at Yokosuka Naval Base on May 23.
The annual event features swimming, bowling, soccer, volleyball, a 5K race, opening and closing ceremonies.
Commissaries to hold sales on bulk itemsCommissaries on U.S. military bases in Japan, Okinawa and South Korea will hold case lot sales this month.
The events give shoppers the opportunity to save 30 percent or more on bulk items including canned goods, beverages, paper products, cleaning supplies, produce and other items. Call your local commissary for more information.

Single Marine Program to host Fun NightsCAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The Single Marine Program is holding three Commissary Fun Nights in support of May’s Commissary Awareness Month, according to a news release.
All three events will include games, giveaways and prizes.
The Camp Foster Commissary Fun Night is scheduled from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Camp Courtney’s will be from 7:30 to 10 p.m. May 27. A date for the Camp Kinser event is still to be determined.

Red Cross schedules baby-sitting courseCAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Camp Foster’s Red Cross has scheduled a baby-sitting course for Friday and Saturday at Building 5674.
The training is for youth 11 or older and students must attend both days of training for certification, according to a Marine news release. Training will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

South Korea News BriefsReward doubled for information on stabbingThe reward for information about an attempted murder and aggravated assault outside an Itaewon bar Feb. 1 has been doubled to $3,000.
According to fliers posted at U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan, a soldier was stabbed with a knife at the King Club in Itaewon and assaulted by several people. The attacker allegedly put his knife and clothes into a black plastic bag near Yongsan Garrison.
The Army Criminal Investigation Command had offered a $1,500 reward for information about the bag that could lead to an arrest and conviction, but that reward expired March 19.
USFK has declined to comment because of the ongoing criminal investigation. A USFK spokesman said the soldier attacked at the club was treated at the garrison hospital and released.
Consular rep visiting Busan next weekOfficials from the U.S. Embassy’s American Citizen Services Unit will offer consular services in Busan next week at the American Presence Post.
A consular officer will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday. American citizens will be able to apply for U.S. passports, additional visa pages in their current passports, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, and Social Security cards.
Consular officers will also offer notarial services and provide information regarding voting, federal benefits and registration with the embassy, according to an embassy news release.
The embassy urged people to consult the Web site http://www.asktheconsul.org to find out what forms, documents and fees they need to bring. Forms must be filled out in advance. Anyone submitting documents such as birth certificates or passports should also bring photocopies.
