SCHINNEN, Netherlands — U.S. Army Garrison Schinnen is getting $200,000 to bolster its services and facilities after it was recognized as one of the Army’s most improved installations, an Army press release said.

The award was part of the annual Army Community of Excellence competition.

Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli and Lt. Gen. Robert Wilson, chief of staff for Installation Management, presented the award during a May 5 ceremony at the Pentagon.

Fort Campbell, Ky., and Fort McCoy, Wis., shared the honor with Schinnen and were also awarded $200,000 each.

Chiarelli commended those installations’ leadership and people in the installations’ communities.

Army installations around the globe compete every year to be recognized as an Army Community of Excellence. The top installations in ACOE, Fort Stewart Army Airfield, Ga., and Fort Stewart, Ga., each received $1 million.

Schinnen’s commander, Lt. Col. Fern Sumpter praised the soldiers and people who work there.

"They did the work. They made the difference. They earned it," Sumpter said in a release. "It is truly an honor to receive the award on behalf of the garrison."
