Vice President Joe Biden will visit sites in the Balkans this month, his office announced.
A brief statement, released Friday by his office, said Biden will meet with local leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Kosovo. He also will talk with U.S. officials locally and visit with American troops.
The United States has no troops in Serbia and closed most of its operations in Bosnia in 2004. But Brig. Gen. Keith Jones leads about 1,300 U.S. personnel who are part of Multinational Task Force (East) in Kosovo. The 40th Infantry Division, part of the California National Guard, is the lead element of the U.S. contingent.
Maj. Alana Schwermer, a public affairs officer at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo, said Monday the base had not received any official word on a visit.
