The Army chief of staff late Monday announced several general officer assignments for commands downrange and in Europe.

Brig. Gen. Robert A. Carr, the director of intelligence at U.S. European Command, is being assigned as deputy chief of staff, Intelligence, for the International Security Assistance Force and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Brig. Gen. Raymond A. Thomas III, the assistant division commander (support) for 1st Armored Division and Multi-National Division — North in Iraq has been assigned as assistant commanding general of the Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C..

Col. Gregg C. Potter, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general and currently serves at the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C., has been assigned as director of intelligence at the U.S. European Command.

Gas card system set for outage early SundayThe Army and Air Force Exchange Service is shutting down the Esso fuel ration card briefly Sunday to reset the system’s clocks.

The system will be off from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., and the cards will not be able to be used to buy gas during that time. AAFES officials said the outage is needed to reset the system’s clocks to the Standard Time system.

People who are still using the old coupons or the registration document for ration deductions will be able to buy gas during the outage.

American woman, German man allegedly robbedAn American woman and a German man allegedly were robbed at gunpoint last week in Landstuhl, according to local police.

The incident took place at the city center, around 1 a.m. on Oct. 19

The alleged perpetrators were two Americans and one German-American, according to a Kaiserslautern police investigator.

Two of the men threatened the couple with black guns, while the third man waited in a getaway car, police said. The alleged robbers got away with $80, 65 euros, a cell phone, wallets with credit cards and some keys.

The three men, who have not been identified, were later arrested, but police said they were withholding some of the details of the arrest to protect the ongoing investigation.

The men were freed because of a lack of evidence, but the department of public prosecution in Zweibruecken is still looking into the case, police said.
