Command Sgt. Maj. Ralph Beam was chosen by his U.S. Army Europe boss, Gen. Carter Ham, as his top enlisted aide, according to an Army news release.
Beam has been serving as the interim command sergeant major since June.
"I am pleased to announce that Sgt. Major Beam will serve as my right hand, my senior enlisted advisor," Ham said in the release. "Command Sgt. Major Beam is an outstanding senior noncommissioned officer who represents everything a Soldier should aspire to be. He’s a warrior, leader, and mentor."
Prior to joining USAREUR, Beam served as the V Corps sergeant major beginning in August 2005.
A 32-year veteran, he has served in various Ranger, airborne and mechanized infantry units, filling almost any role an infantryman can have, the release stated.
Beam has been awarded the Legion of Merit three times. He has also received the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
"This is a great honor. U.S. Army Europe is a prestigious command with a proud history," Beam said in the release.
"As we continue to fight the Global War on Terror and transform USAREUR, we are writing the next chapter of that history right now.
"I am proud to have a role in those missions and for the opportunity to work with the finest Soldiers in the world,""he said.
