KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa — A small plane originating from Kadena Air Base made an emergency landing in a field near Nago on Friday night.
According to an 18th Wing release, the plane made the landing about 6:20 p.m. Four people were aboard the plane.
Little information was available from the 18th Wing late Friday.
According to the release, 18th Wing officials are cooperating with the Okinawa Defense Bureau and Director of Crisis Management Office.
An Okinawa police spokesman in Nago said the incident was reported by a resident of the rural Machiya district of Nago. The resident told police he heard four Americans calling for help and saw the plane on fire.
The police spokesman described the plane as a Cessna belonging to the Kadena Air Base Aero Club. He said it was flying from Amami Island to the air base when it apparently struck some electrical wires.
The pilot had minor cuts to his face and a passenger complained of a shoulder pain, the police spokesman said. They were taken to Hokubu Hospital in Nago for treatment. Two other passengers appeared uninjured, the spokesman said.
