U.S. Army Europe announced Wednesday the movement of Company G, 52nd Aviation Regiment from Aviano Air Base, Italy, to the German military communities of Stuttgart and Mannheim.

The move, according to a USAREUR release, is "to enhance Command and Control of training, maintenance and flight standardization."

Italy-based Army units will continue to receive the same level of aviation support, the release stated.

Involved in the move are 213 Americans, 85 of whom are soldiers. Coming with the troops are two small C-12 planes and two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.

The planes haven’t been at Aviano long, having left Vicenza, Italy, and the Army base there just about a year ago.

The C-12s, five soldiers and an estimated eight family members will be relocating to Stuttgart. The Black Hawks and the remaining 200 personnel will be stationed in Mannheim.

"These numbers reflect the total personnel associated with the units and organizations in this announcement. The impact on both military and civilian personnel will vary, based on the disposition of their units and the status of individual soldiers and employees," the release said.
