U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan officials will promote Domestic Violence Prevention Month in the next few weeks with events ranging from classes to a candlelight vigil.

The garrison said its aim is to increase community awareness and strengthen family relationships.

The activities are crucial to prevention, according to Paula Moore, garrison family advocacy program manager.

"It enables us to spotlight a pervasive tragedy that is present in every community worldwide," she said in a news release. "Domestic violence affects not only our military families, but impacts mission readiness and effectiveness of soldiers in the field."
