RAF LAKENHEATH, England — The 48th Medical Group from RAF Lakenheath will host a health fair for retirees 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 3 at the base hospital and theater.
Along with administering flu vaccines, doctors and medical staff will conduct screenings for blood pressure, high cholesterol, skin cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, oral cancer, prostate cancer and hearing loss.
"We’re trying to capture the people that may not understand the screening protocols and may not know what’s offered here," said Dr. (Maj.) Steven Baughman. "If we can reduce risks and identifying problems early, then outcomes improve significantly."
Interactive informational booths and brief lectures will address a number of topics such as nutrition, weight loss, smoking cessation, proper posture and body mechanics, strength training, self breast exams and Tricare enrollment and benefits, including the new dental option for retirees.
Patient advocates and representatives from the hospital and the National Health Service will also be on hand to meet with retirees, who constitute about 5 percent of the hospital’s 28,000 eligible patients in the United Kingdom.
Those interested in attending should call 01638-528-771 to sign up and get information about the required fasting that precedes health screenings.
