The Japan Coast Guard has identified the four Americans missing at sea since Sept. 28 after their yacht was struck by Typhoon Jangmi.

The captain of the 66-foot Jade Princess was identified as Ryan Charles Nash, 52. Also missing are the deckman, Mark John Keeper, 24; and the ship’s two engineers, Jamie Reece Duffy, 35, and Daniel John Bates, 55.

The names were released to the Japan Coast Guard by an unidentified owner of the ship, a spokesman in the Naha office said Friday.

The guard continues daily searches for the men. Only debris and the ship’s radio transmitter have been found.

The spokesman would not say where the men are from or whether they are still believed to be alive, nearly three weeks after they sent out a radio distress signal near the Okinawa prefectural island of Ishigaki.

A week ago, the guard scaled back its search efforts, saying it believed the yacht was no longer in the area. An inflatable raft the men might have used has not been found either, officials said.

A Navy P-3 Orion from Kadena Air Base on Okinawa that had been assisting the guard suspended its efforts Tuesday, U.S. Navy 7th Fleet spokesman Chief Robert Garnand said.

No further information has been released, he said.

The men departed from a Malaysian port Sept. 21, with plans to stop in Okinawa before traveling to Yokohama in mainland Japan.
