CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Marine Corps Community Services Counseling and Advocacy will hold its Outdoor Domestic Violence Awareness Vigil and "Movie on the Lawn Chair" from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Building 439.
A candlelight vigil, prayer and a minute of silence will start the event, followed by the PG movie "E.T."
Popcorn will be offered, but participants are advised to bring lawn chairs and provide their own nonalcoholic drinks.

Annual Fright Night seeks volunteersCAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Volunteers are needed for the 3rd Annual Foster Fright Night.
Camp Foster’s Haunted House will be open Oct. 29 for ID holders. The Haunted House will be open to the public Oct. 30.
Help is needed to act in and decorate the house. Units can participate by adopting an entire room. Japanese bilingual guides are also needed Oct. 30.
Volunteers also are needed to decorate vehicles and pass out candy Oct. 30.
The deadline to volunteer is Oct. 21.

Kadena Special Olympics beginCAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The 9th annual Kadena Special Olympics Games begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with a bowling tournament at Chatan Seaside Bowl Mihama, according to a release. More than 175 athletes are expected to compete Saturday.
More than 1,300 athletes are expected to participate in the main games Nov. 8-9, said Chip Steitz, a Kadena Special Olympics adviser.
Survey to study hospital care, safetyCAMP LESTER, Okinawa — The Joint Commission and the Navy Medical Inspector General will conduct a joint accreditation survey of U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa from Nov. 17 to Nov. 21.
The commission works to improve safety and quality of care and certifies more than 15,000 stateside health organizations, according to its Web site.
The survey will determine the hospital’s compliance with national standards, according to a hospital release.

Cheerleaders to conduct cheer campCAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The Kubasaki High School cheerleaders will hold their Dragon Cheer Camp from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 18 at Kubasaki High School.
The camp is open to students in kindergarten through ninth grade.
A fee of $30 will include a photo with one of the Kubasaki cheerleaders.

Unused soccer field to be converted into a dog parkSEOUL — U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan officials plan to turn an unused soccer field near the Pet Care Center on South Post into a dog park.
Work on the field, including raising its 4-foot-high fence, could be completed by December, an official with the Department of Public Works said at a recent community forum.
Construction also is planned on six new playgrounds at Itaewon Acres and Black Hawk Village and should be completed by the end of the year.
