Army Pvt. Bobby Morrissette will stand court-martial for his alleged role in the 2005 beating death of Sgt. Juwan Johnson.
On Tuesday, charges against Morrissette were referred to court-martial, according to a 7th Army Joint Multinational Training Command press release. A date for the court-martial has yet to be set.
According to the press release, Morrissette was charged with the following offenses related to the gang-beating death of Johnson in early July 2005 in Kaiserslautern, Germany: involuntary manslaughter; conspiracy to commit aggravated assault; participation in gang initiation rituals; impeding an investigation; impeding a trial by court-martial; and willfully disobeying a superior commissioned officer.
Morrissette is one of several former or current soldiers and airmen implicated in Johnson’s death, which occurred after an alleged gang-initiation beating. In June 2007, similar charges against Morrissette relating to Johnson’s death were withdrawn and dismissed because of legal concerns.
This May, a Ramstein Air Base airman was convicted for playing a part in Johnson’s death. In 2007, two Kaiserslautern soldiers were convicted for their roles in Johnson’s death, while a third was acquitted.
