CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Camp Foster personnel can expect some changes in their commutes as two gates reopen and two others close for renovations next week.

Gate 5, also known as the Spot Gate, is to reopen Oct. 16, and Gate 1A, also called the Building 1 Gate, is to reopen Oct. 18, Marine spokesman 1st Lt. Adrian Rankine-Galloway said in an e-mail.

The traffic lights outside the two gates are to resume normal operation Friday in preparation for the gates reopening, he said.

The gates, which were closed in mid-April as part of the plan to renovate all Camp Foster gates, will operate 24 hours a day as the last two gates are scheduled to close for renovations.

Gate 3, also called the Globe and Anchor Gate, will close Oct. 16. Gate 6, or Legion Gate, will close Oct. 18, Rankine-Galloway said.

All pass and ID services will be moved to Building 5 on Oct. 18, Rankine-Galloway said.

Also starting Oct. 18, contractors will receive day passes at the Flea Market Gate and then enter base at the Commissary Gate. After hours and on weekends, contractors can get day passes at the Commissary Gate. Local nationals will be able to get day passes at the Commissary and Building 1 gates starting Oct. 18.

Rankine-Galloway also said Gate 2C, also known as the McDonald’s Gate, will be open 6 to 8 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. weekdays for school bus traffic. The gate will close on weekends and school holidays, he said.
