U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan officials have completed a project to add "common sense" names to the numbered gates on their installations, according to a Wednesday news release.

Garrison commander Col. David Hall said the old system "made little sense," according to the release.

The gates were numbered, but the numbers didn’t follow any sort of sequence.

During a monthly community forum in August, Hall discussed the plan to officially rename the gates using nicknames already widely used in the community. Gate 52, for example, became the Commissary Gate since it sits adjacent to the commissary.

"We began an initiative to solicit recommendations from the community for a new naming convention," Hall said in Wednesday’s release.
