Drew Brown ()
Stars and Stripes reporter Drew Brown has been honored by the Military Reporters & Editors group for his photography work in Iraq.
Brown won the photography category in the MRE 2008 journalism awards for his coverage of the Battle of Baqouba last summer. Judges said the "poignant photos brought home the reality of war from combat scenes involving U.S. forces to Iraqi children mugging to the camera. His tight shots made the photos jump off the page."
The awards will be handed out at the group’s annual meeting this fall in Washington, D.C.
Brown has covered both the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for Stars and Stripes since May 2007.
Among the other winners announced were the Army Times’ series on the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry’s tour in Baghdad; the National Journal’s coverage of the "surge" in Iraq; and a Dallas Morning News feature on a wounded Marine’s road to recovery.
