Base theater closes for renovations

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — The Richard Bong Theater is shuttered for renovations. The facility closed late last month and is scheduled to reopen the second week of November.

During the temporary closure, Misawa civil engineers are installing a new heating, ventiliation and air-conditioning system and new seating for the theater, Army and Air Force Exchange Service officials said.

At the same time, the movie concession stand is being upgraded to replace all equipment and expand on theater snack items, including shaved ice, caramel corn, hot-buttered popcorn, nachos and hot dogs.

A grand opening is planned for Nov. 26, but AAFES officials expect the theater to be open before then.
