Fuel prices will drop between 3.8 cents and 8.9 cents a gallon for most of Europe when the Army and Air Force Exchange Service changes its prices on Saturday.

A gallon of midgrade unleaded will fall 8.4 cents a gallon to $3.964 in Germany and $3.92 in the United Kingdom. The largest drop will be in Germany, where a gallon of diesel will be $4.301 a gallon, down 8.9 cents.

The change in AAFES fuel prices mirrors the average U.S. weekly prices calculated by the U.S. Department of Energy.

It’s the second straight week that fuel prices have declined.

Dal Molin airfield vote struck downA referendum on the Dal Molin airfield scheduled for Sunday in Vicenza, Italy, has been struck down in the courts.

Italian media outlets reported on Wednesday’s decision by the Council of State, the highest court in Italy, to shelve the scheduled vote. The court called the proposed vote "superfluous," according to a report filed by ANSA, an Italian news service.

The vote would have asked Vicenza citizens whether they thought the city should purchase the land, which is owned by the Italian government.

The U.S. wants to use the property for barracks and offices for the 173rd Airborne Brigade, which is currently spread out between bases in Germany and Vicenza.

Vicenza Mayor Achille Variati, who was elected mayor partly due to the support of opponents of the U.S. expansion in the city, was quoted by ANSA as saying the decision put "a gag on citizens’ opinions." But he said he would respect it.
