A bomber squadron and a fighter squadron will leave Guam this week, each ending monthslong rotations on the island in the Pacific, according to releases from Andersen Air Force Base.
The turnover was to begin Thursday, as B-52 Stratofortress bombers from Barksdale Air Force Base, La., were scheduled to return home. On Friday, 18 F-15E Strike Eagles are scheduled to leave for Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.
The changes are part of the Air Force’s ongoing rotational deployments of air power in the Pacific. As part of that, airmen from the 23rd Bomb Squadron at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., are scheduled to arrive at Andersen this weekend.
While in Guam, the 20th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron from Barksdale lost a crew of five airmen when a B-52 was lost at sea. The bomber crashed July 21 after takeoff from Andersen. All crew members died, including a sixth member who was stationed at Andersen.
The Air Force’s Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base, Va., is overseeing two investigation boards looking into the crash.

Volunteers needed for Far East BazaarMISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — The Misawa Officers Spouses Club is looking for volunteers for the Far East Bazaar to be held Oct. 18-19.
Jobs available include assisting vendors, performing administrative work such as data entry and cashier duties, and driving vendors to and from their off-base hotel to the bazaar, according to organizers.
Most volunteers — typically about 200 are needed for the event — work four-hour shifts but "whatever time you have" to give is appreciated, said Valerie Frost, MOSC and bazaar publicity chairwoman.
Bazaar hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 18, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 19. Volunteers get to shop the first morning of the bazaar before doors open to the public, Frost said. They also are entered in drawings held every shift to win merchandise donated by vendors.
Call Sandra Williamson at DSN 222-5601 to volunteer.
MOSC is also accepting donations of bottled water and soda, and individually wrapped snacks, to be given to vendors and volunteers during the bazaar. To donate, call Jeanette Goodman at DSN 222-9786.
