Visit Spain during the winter to take advantage of affordable off-season vacation deals now being offered by popular online and local travel agencies. During the mild winter months, Spain’s many destinations offer plenty of sightseeing and adventure. Shop around for the best deal that meets your or your family’s needs.

For example, a search of several online and local travel agencies found three-day to seven-day holidays priced from 139 pounds per person to 449 pounds per person. Most deals include airfare and accommodations, while others also provide meals, drinks and entertainment.

Here are some possible destinations in Spain that travelers might want to consider:

In Zaragoza, art enthusiasts can enjoy decorated frescoes from famous Spanish artists and cupolas painted by Jose Francisco Goya in the Pilar Cathedral. Or visit the Zaragoza Museum, with its fine-arts section that includes a room devoted to Goya. Tired of art? Take in a bullfight or a concert in the 18th-century Misericordia (Mercy) bullring, the first in Spain with a retractable roof.

Another option is Spain’s Costa Dorada (Golden Coast), where the PortAventura theme park is the main attraction for families. Woody Woodpecker and friends play host for the park, which offers 100 daily shows and 30 rides through five exotic lands.

If you’re after something more adventurous, go to Spain’s Meravelles Caves of Benifallet. Explore the many figures among the stalactites and stalagmites and other cave formations. Bring a jacket for the caves’ chilly temperatures.

Spain’s many surrounding islands also appeal to tourists. In the city of Palma, the 13th-century Palma Cathedral features more than 1,200 pieces of stained glass, including one of the largest stained-glass rose windows in the world. The city’s historic district offers boutiques for shopping and old mansions that now serve as restaurants and high-priced drinking holes.

And visit the city’s Castle of Bellver, which holds a museum and offers visitors a picture-perfect view of the city, bay and surrounding countryside from its flat roof.

If shopping — and perhaps a little gambling — is what the vacation is all about, go to Mahon, the capital of the island of Menorca, for designer outlets, shops, restaurants and local markets. Shoppers can find more trinket shops in the city’s port district, along with lively bars and the island’s casino. Winter-time boat trips are also available.

Finally, a popular destination for those headed to Spain is Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. The city of Las Palmas offers tourists a lesson in the island’s volcanic past. A host of art galleries, museums and chapels in the city’s Vegueta neighborhood also beckons travelers.
