MACKENBACH, Germany — Air Force police found the body of an airman in a wooded area of Mackenbach, a village near Ramstein Air Base, on Sunday morning, an Air Force spokeswoman said.
The airman, whose name was not released, was assigned to the Ramstein-based 86th Airlift Wing.
Air Force and German law enforcement authorities are investigating the cause of the death, said Darlene Cowsert, a 435th Air Base Wing spokeswoman.
Members of the 569th U.S. Forces Police Squadron found the body around 9 a.m. Cowsert said she could not provide any additional details. The gender of the servicemember and what led the military police to find the body off base were not released.
