YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — A power, steam and hot water outage is scheduled to hit several facilities in the central part of base on Saturday, officials said.

The shutdown, set for 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., is necessary as workers make replacements and conduct tests as part of a future electrical upgrade.

Affected buildings include the Yujo Community Center, Traditional Chapel, Community Bank, Credit Union, Education Center and dorms numbered 330, 331 and 421.

The Arts & Crafts Center is closing for all business due to the outage. The Annual Sidewalk Sale will be rescheduled at a later date. In case of inclement weather, the work will be completed Sunday.

‘Seussical the Musical’ playing at YokotaYOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — “Seussical the Musical,” a Yokota youth theatrical performance, is being staged at the Taiyo Recreation Center through Saturday.

Show times are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The community is invited to attend.

Teen aviation camp accepting applicationsYOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — High school sophomores and juniors can apply for a chance to attend this summer’s Ninth Annual Air Force Services Teen Aviation Camp in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The camp, set for May 31 to June 5, is for teens interested in aviation, leadership or the Air Force Academy. It’s open to eligible students entering the 10th or 11th grades in the fall.

Application packages are available at the Yokota Teen Center and online at www.afyouthprograms.com. They must be turned in at the teen center by Monday.

School group to hold bake sale for toleranceMISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Edgren High School’s Gay Straight Alliance will hold a bake sale from 10 a.m. into the afternoon Saturday between the Misawa commissary and food court to raise money for the Lawrence King Memorial Fund.

The fund promotes programs to teach tolerance among middle and high school students, according to Gay Straight Alliance faculty sponsor Laurie Kuntz.

Baked goods can be dropped off starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Auditions to be held for ‘The Little Mermaid’Auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theater production of “The Little Mermaid” are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Monday at Seoul American Elementary School.

The auditions are open to children in kindergarten through 12th grade.
