YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — For the second week in a row, gas prices at Army and Air Force Exchange Service pumps have risen more than 8 cents in South Korea and on Guam.
Beginning Saturday, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in South Korea will increase from $3.107 to $3.195, 6.5 cents above the U.S. average but still well below the $3.328 average being seen by California residents.
On Guam, the price for the same gallon of gas increased by eight cents to $3.229.
In Japan, gas prices at U.S. bases rose for the first time in the past month, up 5.3 cents from $2.995 to $3.048. The lower price in Japan reflects a 25-cent discount per gallon that is paid from Japanese government funds.
The increases are due to hikes in stateside gas prices, which rose this past week an average of 8.8 cents to $3.13 a gallon, according to the Department of Energy.
AAFES fuel prices are determined weekly, based on the Department of Energy national average, combined with other distribution costs that differ from country to country.
Diesel prices in Japan and South Korea increased by 15.6 cents.
