The Marine Corps Community Service’s Counseling and Advocacy Prevention Department is sponsoring a letter campaign for domestic violence awareness in October, according to a Marine release Monday.
The campaign, “Letters from Okinawa,” encourages military, civilians and family members to submit anonymous letters, journal entries, stories, poetry and artwork about domestic violence or how it’s affected lives, according to the release.
Submissions can be mailed via the military postal service to MCCS Counseling and Advocacy, Box 5023 Unit 35023, FPO AP 96373-5023, or dropped off at Building 439 until Sept. 28.
Selected submissions will be displayed at the libraries on camps Foster, Kinser and Courtney starting the second week of October.
Entries will not be returned.

Child-safety expert to speak at KadenaEmmy Award-winning child-safety expert Ken Wooden is scheduled to speak at evening forums on Kadena Air Base and Plaza Housing on Monday and Tuesday, according to a Marine Corps release.
Wooden will speak about Internet predators from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Kadena’s Keystone Theater. He will speak from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Butler Officers Club in Plaza Housing.
Both events are free and open to status of forces agreement personnel. Parents are invited to bring children 8 and older, according to the release.
Though free, tickets are required.
To get tickets for the Kadena theater location, call Kadena Family Advocacy at DSN 634-0433. Tickets for the Butler Officers Club location are available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the Marine Corps Community Services Program office on the second deck of Building 439.

Soldiers celebrate Women’s Equality DayThe 58th Signal Battalion will host the Army on Okinawa’s Women’s Equality Day observance at 3 p.m. Friday in the Soldiers’ Training Center on Torii Station, according to an Army release.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating Women’s Right to Vote.”
Dr. Nancy C. Bresell, Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Pacific director, will be the guest speaker.
Torii Station prayer breakfast FridayTorii Station is scheduled to hold a prayer breakfast Friday morning, according to an Army release.
The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Coral Cove.
The guest speaker is Col. Vincent J. Inghilterra, chaplain for the 8th Theater Sustainment Command.
