A U.S. helicopter went down in Yusifuyah on Friday in a “forced landing” while supporting an early morning ground mission, officials said.
“Two U.S. soldiers sustained non-life threatening injuries when the aircraft landed. Initial reports from ground forces do not clearly identify the cause of the mishap while in transit to the proposed target,” a U.S. military news release read.
A quick-reaction force and close-air-support assets got to the site, providing security for the downed troops and aircraft; the type of helicopter involved was not released.
The crash is under investigation. Early this year, at least eight American helicopters were brought down by enemy fire.
