A military judge has granted a defense request to delay the court-martial of a Camp Zama chaplain accused of adultery and Internet stalking, U.S. Army Japan officials said.

The trial of Capt. Mike Myers was scheduled to start Thursday. A new date has not been announced.

Myers, 45, is charged with five counts of cyberstalking and one specification each of adultery and unbecoming conduct stemming from his alleged relationship with an Arizona woman. After an investigation hearing in May, it was determined that he should face court-martial.

A 16-year Army veteran, Myers remains assigned to Camp Zama’s 441st Military Intelligence Battalion, 500th Military Intelligence Brigade but was removed from chaplain duties after receiving nonjudicial punishment last November. Since then, he has worked in an administrative role and had no contact with soldiers.

If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 27 years in prison, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and dismissal from the Army.
