NAHA, Okinawa — A Kubasaki High School teacher facing trial for possessing marijuana has been released on bail. David Jones, a social studies teacher, was released from the Naha Detention Center on June 15 after paying 2 million yen, or about $16,500, cash bail. He was indicted June 13.
Jones was arrested May 21 after Japanese and military police searched his off-base home in Chatan, near Kadena Air Base, and seized a marijuana plant and pipes containing marijuana residue.
Worker admits theft from unionThe Japanese base employees’ labor union in Sagamihara city confirmed Thursday that a 41-year-old worker admitted pocketing union money. The worker did administrative work at the Sagamino branch of the All Japan Garrison Forces Labor Union.
The union is investigating how much she allegedly pocketed and for how long, a union official said. He said about 34 million yen (about $278,000)is involved. The union is considering suing, he added.
