YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — Sailors, base employees and family members from Hawaii are invited to meet Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle when she visits Yokosuka Naval Base on Wednesday.
The program runs from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Officers Club Admiralty Room and features a lunch buffet, music performances and a meet-and-greet with Lingle. All officers and enlisted personnel attached to Yokosuka Naval Base and Naval Air Facility Atsugi tenant commands are welcome.
The uniform for participants E-7 and above is service khaki. For E-6 and below, the uniform is summer whites. Civilian attendees should wear appropriate civilian attire.
Yokota chopper makes emergency landingYOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — A Yokota-based UH-1N helicopter made a “controlled precautionary landing” in a soccer field near Hakkeijima, Kanazawa-ku, Yokohama city, Wednesday at approximately 3:25 p.m., according to a 374th Airlift Wing press release.
The helicopter, assigned to the 459th Airlift Squadron, was on a routine training mission carrying three aircrew and four U.S. Air Force cadets.
According to the press release, no personnel were injured and the aircraft was not damaged during the landing.
During the flight, the crew received indication of a potential transmission malfunction and made the controlled landing to avoid a more serious situation.
Yokota officials immediately notified the Japanese government of the incident, and dispatched maintenance, safety, operations and public affairs officials to the site.
Kanazawa police officials also confirmed that the helicopter landed at the park and said no injuries or damage has been reported.

Marines to show off training toys at Camp FosterCAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The Marine Corps Combat Camera Center is scheduled to host a ground-training devices and simulators exposition Friday at the Globe and Anchor from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a Marine Corps release.
Improvised explosive devices, tactical decision-making simulations, targeting and marksmanship trainers and more will be on display at the exposition, which will be opened to all servicemembers.
