MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan — A Marine sergeant involved in an accident that killed a Japanese man has been turned over to U.S. authorities, according to a military spokeswoman.
Sgt. Frank A. Barbara of Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron has not been charged in the accident, according to Master Sgt. Lesli Coakley, a base spokeswoman.
Barbara was driving early Sunday morning near Miyajima Station, outside of Iwakuni, when his vehicle hit a bicyclist, Marine officials said. The man, 78, died.
No alcohol was involved, Coakley said Sunday evening.
