New unit designations
SECKENHEIM, Germany — The Army held a ceremony this week to mark the new designation of five Europe-based units that provide equipment and support to troops downrange.
Battalions in Livorno, Italy; Bettembourg, Luxembourg; Eygelshoven, Netherlands, and Hythe, England, that were once called combat equipment battalions are now called Army field support battalions. A unit at Rhine Ordnance Barracks, Germany, once called a combat equipment base is now an Army field support company.
The name changes highlight the changing mission of the units, which play a more direct role in missions downrange than before, Army officials said in a news release.
The release noted that two battalion commanders and their staffs are deployed in combat zones.
