SASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan — The Sasebo Chief Petty Officer’s Association and Kyushu Military Retired Association will make the annual trek to Soto Dam on Sunday for a memorial service.

The noon service honors 55 U.S. and 14 Japanese servicemembers who died during the dam’s construction from 1941 through 1944.

Uniform for active-duty personnel will be summer whites. All others are requested to wear appropriate civilian attire.

Transportation to and from the dam will be provided from the Showboat Theater parking lot. Buses depart at 11 a.m. and return at approximately 1:30 p.m.

A picnic will be held in Pavilion 3 at Nimitz Park following the ceremony. All are invited and asked to bring a covered dish or dessert.
