CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The Armed Services Blood Bank Center is planning two blood drives on Okinawa next week.
The first is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 31 at the 18th Medical Group on Kadena Air Base. The second, also at Kadena, is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 2 at the Schilling Community Center.
Also, the Blood Donor Center on Camp Lester, Building 6017, is open to donors Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. All blood drives are open to servicemembers, Department of Defense civilians and family members age 17 and older.
Mission requirements may require canceling or rescheduling a blood drive. Donors may confirm a specific drive by visiting U.S. Navy Hospital Okinawa Online and clicking on “info for patients and community,” then “blood donor program.”
Donors may contribute if they have not donated blood in the past 57 days; weigh at least 110 pounds; and are in good health, according to the center.
The center will not draw blood from people who’ve received a tattoo, body piercing or acupuncture in the past 12 months; have received a blood transfusion in the past 12 months; lived in Western Europe for six months cumulative time from 1980-1996; lived in England for three months cumulative time from 1980-1996; have heart problems; have ever tested positive for HIV; or have had intimate contact with anyone at risk for AIDS, among other conditions.
Call C. Tracy Parmer, blood donor recruiter, at DSN 643-7710 or 643-7737, or e-mail parmerct@oki10.med.navy.mil for more information.
