A 42nd ID soldier died Sunday afternoon from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident near Kirkuk, Army officials said.
The soldier was in the gunner’s turret of a Humvee on the south edge of Kirkuk when the rollover happened.
Army officials said the soldier was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 116th Armored Cavalry Regiment, a National Guard unit out of Idaho. The accident happened at approximately 2:30 p.m., officials said.
The soldier was taken a field medical facility and pronounced dead just before 4 p.m.
There were four other soldiers in the Humvee, but none of them were seriously injured, officials said.
Another U.S. soldier died in Tikrit, about 80 miles north of Baghdad, when a suicide car bomber blew himself up near a U.S. convoy and police station. Two other soldiers, along with two Iraqi policemen, were also wounded, the military said.
The names of both soldiers are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
