The Wiesbaden Community Spouses Club awarded scholarships totaling more than $30,000 to 11 high school seniors and eight continuing education students at a luncheon last week at the Wiesbaden Army Airfield in Germany.
Senior Daniel Lohmer received $3,360 from the Jacob Dixon III Memorial Scholarship. It was the 22nd year that the award was given in memory of Capt. Jacob Dixon III, a 1964 Gen. H.H. Arnold High School graduate who was an Air Force instructor pilot killed in a 1982 private airplane crash.
Other seniors, all from Gen. H.H. Arnold in Wiesbaden, receiving awards ranging from $1,360 to $2,860 were: Kaitlyn Bertsch, Rafael Chico-Lugo, Bethany Fountain, Daniel Meden, Lauren O’Gara, Jamie Richardson, Ashley Rodgers, Matthew Smith, Steven Spurgeon and Dennis Watson.
Fountain and Richardson each received an additional $1,000 from the First Command Education Foundation.
The continuing education students receiving scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500 were: Laura Clinger, Nora Gonzales, Ruth Hale, Susan Hubbard, Michelle Loredo, Rachel Lucken, Doris Pickerd and Kelli Zagata.
The scholarship money comes from the spouses club’s fund-raisers and donations by the Dixon family, First Command Financial Services and the high school booster club.
