Two U.S. Army Europe generals and a colonel nominated for promotions are moving on to new assignments, the Pentagon announced Tuesday. All are now in Germany; two of them have been assigned to stateside positions. They are:

Brig. Gen. Robert Williams, deputy chief of staff for operations for U.S. Army Europe, who is to be commander of the U.S. Army Armor Center and Fort Knox commandant, at the Army Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Brig. Gen. Mark Hertling, commander of the 7th Army Training Command in Grafenwöhr, Germany, who is to be USAREUR deputy chief of staff for operations in Heidelberg.

Col. David Rubenstein, 30th Medical Brigade commander in Heidelberg, who is to be assistant surgeon general and deputy chief of staff for force sustainment at the U.S. Army Medical Command at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Ecstasy use punished

Two Ramstein-based airmen with the 435th Medical Support Squadron have been punished for the wrongful use of the club drug, Ecstasy.

Senior Airman James M. Sessions pleaded guilty at a special court-martial last week to one violation and three specifications under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice for wrongful use, introduction and distribution of Ecstasy.

Sessions was sentenced to 11 months’ confinement, given a bad-conduct discharge and reduced to the lowest pay grade.

He admitted to using the drug, bringing it onto Ramstein Air Base and distributing it on more than one occasion.

Also last week, Airman 1st Class Justin L. Tucker pleaded guilty to one violation of wrongful use of Ecstasy.

Tucker received a bad-conduct discharge, was reduced to the lowest pay grade and ordered to forfeit his pay. Tucker admitted to using the drug on one occasion in February.

New commanders named

A trio of squadrons received new commanders Monday at Ramstein Air Base.

Lt. Col. Christopher Mardis assumed command of the 86th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.Maj. Mary Toohey took command of the 86th Maintenance Squadron.Maj. David Kieselhorst was handed command duty over the 86th Maintenance Operations Squadron.The ceremony also marked the instatement of Lt. Col. Martin Lovato as new deputy commander of the 86th Maintenance Group.

All of the commanders have been stationed at Ramstein for more than a year with the 86th.

At the end of the ceremony, Col. Park Plumb, 86th commander, challenged each of the new commanders and each of the maintainers to embrace new LEAN initiatives that will be implemented over the next few months. “These initiatives will further cut waste in manpower, facilities, funding, tools and equipment, and I know we’ll see huge breakthrough,” he said. “The end benefit will be better support to the warfighter, while we work smarter and not longer.”
