Registration for Operation Purple Camp, the free summer camp in Europe for children of deployed troops, has been extended by a week with applications now accepted until May 22.
The two camps, sponsored by Installation Management Agency-Europe and corporate groups, will run at different times during the summer and will separate younger children from older children to help them cope with deployment issues.
Middle school students who are selected will attend one of two sessions at Camp Darby, Italy, July 17-23 or July 24-30. High school students get their chance the following month in Garmisch, Germany, with sessions Aug. 21-27 or Aug. 28 to Sept. 3.
Applications are still available at Army youth centers, Army Community Service offices and on the Internet at www.mwr-europe.com to view detailed brochures of the camps.
Airman sentenced for using, distributing Ecstasy
KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — The Air Force sentenced a senior airman based at Ramstein Air Base to 11 months in prison for using and distributing the illegal drug Ecstasy on base.
A military judge at a court-martial Wednesday also gave Senior Airman James M. Sessions a bad-conduct discharge and reduced him to the lowest pay grade, according to base spokeswoman Erin Zagursky. Sessions is a biomedical equipment journeyman with the 435th Medical Support Squadron.
Air Force investigators from the Office of Special Investigations said that Sessions used and distributed the drug between Sept. 1, 2004, and Feb. 28. Sessions also was charged with wrongfully introducing the drug with the intent to distribute at Ramstein during the same time span.
