The Germany and Benelux chapters of Phi Delta Kappa have announced winners of their annual scholarship competitions for high school seniors interested in pursuing teaching careers.

For the Germany chapter, Joshua Worrell from Bamberg High School, and Matthew Luthman and Amanda Taylor from Ramstein High School each received a $3,000 scholarship.

Luthman also received a $2,000 scholarship for winning the education association’s international essay contest, and Taylor received an additional $500 from the Donovan Walling Family Scholarship.

Charnette Murray, of Heidelberg High School, won the Joseph Blackstead Award and a $1,000 scholarship.

Shawn Gale, a fifth-grade teacher Böblingen Elementary School near Stuttgart, won the $1,000 Germany Member Scholarship. It is awarded to Phi Delta Kappa members pursuing advanced degrees in education.

The winners will be honored at a ceremony Saturday at the Village Pavilion on Patrick Henry Village in Heidelberg.

The Benelux chapter awarded five scholarships. The recipients are Rebecca Wilson, Nicole Herway and Clarissa Bottesini, of Brussels American School in Belgium; Heidi Willhelm, of SHAPE High School in Belgium; and Laura Fitzgerald, AFNORTH High School in the Netherlands.

In addition Wilson was one of 50 students worldwide to win an international scholarship presented by the International Headquarters of Phi Delta Kappa. It is for $1,000.

The Benelux students will be honored at a luncheon in Luncheon in Brugge, Belgium, on May 15.

Phi Delta Kappa is an international association for professional educators.
