Following is a roundup of some of the 60th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day events.

Plzen, Czech Republic

May 5-7

U.S. Army Europe will provide an honor platoon and band.

Events begin Thursday with a concert at the Opera House. The commemoration of the liberation of Plzen by the U.S. 16th Armored Division and 2nd Infantry Division, including an unveiling of a statue of Gen. George Patton, is scheduled for Friday, along with wreath-layings at the 2nd ID monument and the 16th AD monument. A flyover and wreath-laying at the “Thank You, America” monument will precede a 6 p.m. open-air concert. A parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Prague, Czech Republic

May 8-9

USAREUR is providing a band, color guard and honor platoon.

A parade will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday followed by a concert at Old Town Square. On Monday, a concert is scheduled at Rudolfinium Concert Hall

Reims, France

May 6-7

City officials are planning for thousands of visitors attending events at sites all over the city, including at the Surrender Museum. There will be a number of symposiums and debates on both days in the city’s Congress Hall.

Events also will include official ceremonies at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Reims War Memorial and at noon at City Hall Square. French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin is scheduled to attend, as are U.S. Ambassador to France Howard Leach, and U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Peter J. Schoomaker. Also planned is a major parade, with 55 military vehicles. The finale will be an 11:45 p.m. sound and light show at the War Memorial, followed by fireworks.

Vianden, Luxembourg

May 7

USAREUR is providing a color guard and band for a liberation celebration.

Bussum, Netherlands

May 5-8

Bussum Bridgehead 2005, Operation “Liberty 60,” is billed as Europe’s largest V-E Day re-enactment event. More than 500 re-enactors are expected from the United States and Europe, with their vehicles and equipment. Web site: www.bussumbridgehead.com.

Margraten, Netherlands

May 8

President Bush is scheduled to attend events at the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial at Margraten near Maastricht.

Moscow, Russia

May 7-9

USAREUR will provide a band and color guard.

President Bush is scheduled to attend events, which begin Saturday with ceremonies at the Great Patriotic War Memorial in Victory Park. Sunday will include a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 4:30 p.m. and a concert at 6 p.m. On Monday, a military parade down Tverskaya Boulevard, ending at Moscow city hall, will be followed by a concert inside the Kremlin walls at 5 p.m.

Duxford, Cambridgeshire, England

May 7-8

World War II aircraft such as the Spitfire fighter and B-17 bombers will be on display at Imperial War Museum-Duxford, along with modern military aircraft, during its annual air show.
