WüRZBURG, Germany — The 1st Infantry Division’s 1st Military Police Company has earned the Griffin Award, given to Europe’s top military police unit company size or smaller.

It was the fourth time the company has received the award since 1997, according to a 1st Infantry Division news release. The MPs also placed second at the Department of Army level, the release stated.

This is the last year the company can receive the award, according the Capt. Timothy Mahoney, company commander.

“The 1st MP Company is inactivating June 30 of this year after 89 years of service,” Mahoney was quoted as saying in the release.

“This is a testament to the hard work of the unit and the history of the Griffin Award to win it in our last year.”
