Task Force Danger troops from the 1st Infantry Division rounded up 19 suspected insurgents and numerous weapons in roundups north of Baghdad between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, according to the task force’s daily briefing report.

Troops from the Schweinfurt, Germany-based 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment arrested nine men after an Iraqi citizen led them to a weapons cache near Balad about 4 p.m. Thursday. They seized seven AK-47 assault rifles, two rocket-propelled grenade launchers and grenades, ammunition, bayonets and safes.

The men, who were picked up during a search of nearby houses, said they were guests in the houses and knew nothing about the weapons. The report said they were taken to a jail at a nearby base for questioning.

In Ad Duluiyah, soldiers from the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, netted 10 suspects about 2:30 a.m. during a sweep code-named Operation Wolverine. They also seized three rifles, a shotgun, a pistol, an AK-47 and some spools of copper wire. These men also were taken to a coalition jail for questioning.
